Unaccompanied Minors

Because of legal requirements and the need to complete certain documentation it is not possible to book an Unaccompanied Minor using the flyZAMBEZI.com online booking system.

Applicability

The unaccompanied minor procedure must be applied for a child between 5 and 12 years old, not accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age. A child under 5 years of age is not accepted for transportation on Zambezi Airlines flights if not accompanied by an adult.

Passengers between 12 and 17 years old and travelling alone may be considered unaccompanied minors and accepted as such:

  • On special request of the parents or appointed guardian
  • In case of doubt about his/her ability to travel alone.

Zambezi Airlines does not provide an escort for minors by its own staff and the maximum number of Unaccompanied Minors per flight may not exceed ten per flight.

Connecting flights

For interline transportation Unaccompanied Minors shall be permitted only for if all segments of which have been confirmed. Each carrier is responsible for the safe delivery of the unaccompanied minor to the receiving carrier at the transfer airport. Same day connections are allowed only, provided all reservations are confirmed. Stopovers or night stoZJ are not permitted.

The maximum connection time at the airports may not exceed 4 hours.

Acceptance criteria

Zambezi Airlines will accept for carriage unaccompanied minors travelling alone on the following conditions.

  • Seat is reserved in advance
  • Minor is accompanied to the airport of departure by an adult and the adult is not entitled to leave before the actual take off of the flight
  • The minor can be accepted on the flight only once the minor’s parent or appointed guardian has accepted the declaration text in the UM Handling Advice Form by signing the form.
  • The minor is met by an adult at the airport of destination (contact details of the person must exist in the UM Handling Advice Form as well as in the PNR)
  • The travel documents of the UM including a visa if required are in order. Unaccompanied Minors Handling Advice Form must be is duly completed. The parent/guardian shall be informed to retain the Unaccompanied Minors Handling Advice Form in case it is also used for the return flight.

 

The flight tickets for unaccompanied minors should always be purchased in advance, not at the airport prior to departure. Likewise the form "Handling Advice for Unaccompanied Minors" shall be completed in advance and a sufficient number of copies made.

For Zambezi Airlines direct flights: USD 25 per flight ( USD 50 for a return flight)

Infants

Infants are those under two years old at the time of travel while the youngest age an infant can be to travel is 48 hours old.

An infant fare is charged at 10% of the adult fare when the infant does not have his/her own seat, but sits on an adult’s lap. If you want your infant to sit in his/her own seat (they must be between 6 -23 months), you will be charged the applicable child fare. This cannot be booked online. Please contact your nearest Zambezi Airlines office if you wish your infant to have their own seat. There must be one adult accompanying each infant seated on an adult’s lap. If one adult wishes to travel with a second infant, this is only possible if the second infant is aged between 6 and 23 months, he/she must be seated in an approved car-type seat and the applicable child fare will be charged. If the second infant is under 6 months you must travel with a second accompanying adult.
